Return to Edit Teacher ProfileWelcome to the SYTA Teachers’ Profile tutorial and help section, which will assist you to create your SYTA web page. Please do not hesitate to contact a help person if you have any difficulties. We welcome feedback on this process. You may find this process a little daunting when you first start but we have designed the Edit page to make your job as simple as possible. Once you get started, you will find that creating your own page is quite straightforward and the results will be very rewarding,
There is a lot of information on this help page so it is suggested that you print off a hard copy of this tutorial. You may also like to view some of the current pages on the website of other SYTA members eg Yoga in Woonona etc in NSW Regional area before you edit your own page.
A basic webpage has been created for you by the webmaster and you can edit this page. The initial page created for you will have your name/spiritual name (which show up at the top of your page in large Red letters), the region in Australia where you teach, your email address and suburb. The suburb is your address registered on the SYTA membership file. You can change any of this information using the edit facility. If you wish to view your basic webpage, use Find a Yoga Class on the main menu.
1. Logging in
On the SYTA home page, above Welcome to SYTA, click Log in. Then the page headed Members/Associate Members opens. Type in your username and password, and click log in. (If you have forgotten your password, click Forgotten your password?, fill in your details, and a new password will be emailed to you.)Once you have logged in the page headed Members will open. Above this heading and to the right you will see ‘your name logged in’. If you wish to log out, simply click on Log out.
2. Editing your page
To the left on the Members page is a navigation bar with a number of options. To edit your page, click on the 1st option Edit Teacher Profile, and then on the page that comes up, click edit beside your page listing This will open a page with text fields where you enter information about yourself and your classes. Fields with an * are mandatory and must be completed. Before you start there are three very important pieces of information you need to understand.
1. Copying text from elsewhere. Please do not under any circumstances copy anything from a document like Word or an Excel spreadsheet or any other proprietary software into a text box or any other field on the Edit page. Doing so can seriously affect the entry and you may end up with all sorts of things happening that you will find difficult to deal with.
a. If you are only familiar with the basics of using your computer then type all the information into each field using your keyboard. If you understand the instructions in the next paragraph then you can cut and paste text from elsewhere.
b. If you have text that you have written for other purposes and you want to use it on your web page, copy the relevant text and paste it into the text editor Notepad for Windows or TextEdit for Macs. (If you use the Mac TextEdit, make sure you set the default text to ‘plain text’). Then copy the text from the editor and paste it onto the box. You may think this is tedious but it is in your best interest to follow this advice.
2. Ampersands. Please do not use ampersands (&) anywhere on your page, particularly in the name of files or titles Please use 'and' rather than '&'.
3.. Content on your webpage. The SYTA website has been established for the benefit of SYTA members so the content must be in keeping with the SYTA Code of Ethics and SYTA Code of Practice
The fields to be completed are listed below in the order they appear on the page. The more ‘useful and concise’ the information you provide, the more potential students will want to read what you have presented on your page. Please note you must click on the Save button at the bottom of the edit page to save your work. Please save your work regularly!
To return to your Edit Page after saving, Please follow the instructions on the Edit saved confirmation page ie follow the link shown on the page. DO NOT use the Back Page button on your browser to go back to the edit page. You will not be able to save your work if you do this.
Entries in all the following three fields are compulsory!
• ‘Title of page’ – . You must have some information in this field. Here you can write the name of your centre or business, or ‘Yoga in + suburb(s)’. Please do not use ampersands in this field. This is the most important field on your page in relation to web searches Enter info about what/how you think others will want to look for your yoga classes on the net. This will automatically appear in large Red letters at the top of your web page.

Please be respectful of copyright and ensure you have permission from the people whose photo(s) you take.If you have experience in editing photos then you may not need to use this section other than to keep in mind that all photos must be no greater than 200 pixels in width. If your photo is greater than 200 px width the system will crop the photo accordingly and you may end up with a meaningless photo.
Please limit your photo height to say 300 pixels. If you exceed this you may create problems on your page and the webmaster may decide to delete your photo if it is too large. No photo is to exceed 200 kb in size.
If you do not have experience in editing photos you can use sites such as http://www.shrinkpictures.com/ or http://www.photosize.com/ to give you info on how to edit photos on line to give you the size you need. We recommend that you create a separate folder on your computer specifically for photos you use on the SYTA website – this will make it easier for you to remember what photos you have and be able to access then easily when you are updating your SYTA web page.
‘To upload an image click ‘Browse’ to find the saved image on your computer. When you find your saved image click Open and the relevant photo will be ready to load onto your page. Remember you need to click ‘Save’ to update all the work on your page. Tip: make the image you want to use smaller than 200px wide before clicking ‘browse’.
If you have any doubts about loading photos, please contact the relevant help person or the SYTA webmaster at webmaster@syta.org.au
There are a large variety of photos relevant to yoga available for purchase at low prices on the net. You can find very cheap images at http://www.fotolia.com/ or http://www.istockphoto.com
Edit boxes
Edit boxes are those that facilitate the input of text; the first box is headed ‘General Description’ -. These boxes make your text entry easier and allow you scope to enhance your entry by making parts of the text Bold or Italics, add links to other website/pages add bullets and/or numbered items. You may also add headings in different sizes if you choose – H2 is the largest. The edit box is a very simple word processor and the following are hints to assist you use these boxes:- the easiest way to enter text is to type it directly into the box - if you want to copy text from elsewhere please read the comments in bold towards the top of the page on how to do this (go to this section)
- once you have the text entered in the box, then you can format the different parts as you want. eg you may want to make part of the text Bold. To do this highlight the section you want to make bold and click the B button at the top of the box. If you want to make the Bold text not bold, repeat the process above. This process applies to Italics and Headings as well.
- to change ordinary text to a heading follow the instructions above ie highlight the relevant text and then pick a suitable heading from the drop-down menu. H2 is the largest heading used in the box and should only be used at the top of the box. The other headings can be used throughout the box but remember that you don't want to overdo your headings. To change a heading back to normal text, reverse the process ie highlight and select Paragraph from the drop-down menu.
- When you complete a sentence and you want to go to a new line but not start a new paragraph, you need to use Shift/Enter to do so. Pressing Enter will give you a double space.
If you understand html code you can also edit this page in code. If you do not understand html code please do not attempt to use this aspect as you might end up with a horrible mess on this part of your page.
Some Edit boxes already have a heading in large Bold eg in the first box is the heading Description and the words ‘Your description goes here! You can change the heading or delete if not required.’ This gives you option of creating your own heading for this field. If you do not want to have any info in this or other fields, delete the heading and the text in the box leaving it blank and this item will not appear on your page. Please make sure you follow the advice about NOT copying text from proprietary software such as Microsoft Word, Excel etc.
Links to other information - Your webpage is quite flexible and allows you if you wish to create a link to your on website or specific pages on your website or to other information stored elsewhere. You can add these links into any of the content in the relevant Text Box using the Link Button at the top of the Text Box. To insert a link highlight the relevant text click on the link and insert the url info. If you need further help with this please contact your help person or the webmaster.
Documents and flyers– ‘how to’
You may wish to have a flyer or even a video clip on your web page. You can do this but we have not provided the facility to store the relevant data on the SYTA website. If you have a workshop flyer or video clip for example that you want students etc to see, you can upload the flyer or clip to a website like U-Tube, Google Docs (see http://www.google.com/google-d-s/tour1.html & http://www.google.com/google-d-s/whatsnew.html for more info) or Yahoo (these have free storage facilities) or to your Mac (.Mac) web storage facility (there is fee for this service) and then place a link in the text (in the relevant Text Edit box) to your information. You can do a similar thing with a flyer for a work shop that you want on your page. If you have any questions about this aspect please contact your help person or the webmaster.Note: There is a facility on the website for advertising relevant Events such as workshops, retreats and tours. Flyers may be forwarded to Anandajyoti who will place these on the relevant page(s). As resources in this area are limited, there will be appropriate restrictions on the amount of advertising available for each SYTA member.
Html code
Html code tells the system how to treat the various items on your page eg if an item (say Asana) is required to be Bold then the Bold button on the Text Editor inserts the following around the word <strong>Asana</strong>. To see the html code in your Text Edit box, click on the button with the magnifying glass. To see the text in normal format click on the same button again! If you have a good understanding of html then you may wish to enhance the various items in the Text Boxes using this code. However, if you are not familiar with html please do not use or attempt to adjust your entries, use the Text box to input all your info and use the buttons on the bar above to make any adjustments. Your help person or the webmaster do not have the resources to either teach you html or to make corrections for errors made as a result of you using the html function.
Completing on-line fillable PDF form
On-line fillable PDF forms are available on the website for all on-line courses and for all SYTA Membership applications. (Full and Associate Membership)
It is essential that these forms are completed using only Adobe Reader. If another programme is used the form will not be able to be read by the person receiving it. This is particularly applicable to those with Apple/Mac computers. The standard PDF programme on Macs is 'Preview' which does not allow correct completion of the fillable forms used by SYTA. Therefore Mac users must download Adobe Reader and use Adobe Reader for all SYTA fillable PDF forms. The relevant Adobe Reader programme is available, free of charge, at http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/
Once you have opened the fillable form, complete all the relevant sections, save the form to your computer and then you can either email the form or attach the form to another programme as required.
You can also print off the blank form and fill it in manually if you wish rather than using your computer to complete the form. If you complete the form manually you may scan the completed form and email it or as a last resort post the form to the Membership Secretary. Please note that application forms for any on-line courses will not be accepted by post, these must be either uploaded via the relevant on-line page on the website or emailed to the On-line Courses Coordinator
If you have any problems with completing these forms please contact the Webmaster at webmaster@syta.org.au
SYTA Membership Applications
All SYTA membership applications require a proposer and seconder. To facilitate the application it is recommended that the applicant request the persons who are acting as sponsors to email their support comments direct to the Membership Secretary. this will save time for the applicant and will assist in the application administration.
