About ACT Yoga & Meditation Centre
Established in 1985, the ACT Yoga & Meditation Centre offers a variety of SATYANANDA YOGA classes in a peaceful garden studio. We also specialise in pre natal and post natal yoga classes. Experienced yoga teachers guide you to progress at a comfortable
level for yourself.
Regular beginners and progressive levels of yoga are available in day or evening classes. Every class will include
- yoga postures which enable you to strengthen, stretch and vitalise your whole body
- yoga breathing practices which balance and expand your energy levels
- deep yoga relaxation which mobilises your inherent powers of healing and rejuvenation
- yoga meditation practices which develop your serenity and mental focus
We hold regular pre natal and post natal yoga classes where you learn ways to relax and empower yourself to approach your birthing experience with calm and confidence. You can begin at any stage of pregnancy (or beyond) the earlier the
better.

Details of Teachers
Vedanta Nicholson
I have been teaching yoga in Canberra for 34 years specialising in pre natal yoga. I am a 'yoga of the heart' person. This is the name of a film made by a friend Jayne Stevenson about Paramahamsa Satyananda and his organisation in India but it's title expresses how I feel about yoga. Yoga needs to connect and involve the whole person, like a great friend or benevolent companion.
I started the ACT Yoga and Meditation Centre in 1985 teaching as many people as I could fit into my lounge. It has grown steadily since then into a seperate garden studio and continuous classes throughout the week also involving other teachers.

Santosh Janssen-Gibson
I am an affiliated Satyananda Yoga Teacher, but I am also a mother, have studied at university and also worked for 9 years in the public service. This has given me an understanding of the stressors and demands on students, staff and parents :-). Yoga has helped to reduce my stress levels, to facilitate a balanced body and mind and to bring greater harmony within my relationships. I now have a yogic 'toolkit' of techniques that I use to deal with life’s daily challenges. I feel empowered to solve my own problems, and I feel uplifted and blessed by the benefits that yoga consistently brings. As a teacher I am passionate about helping you to express your own inner qualities optimally and creatively. Yoga can help you to find more contentment with who you are and where you are right now. The practices help you to slowly harmonise yourself, being designed to evolve the whole person.
