Yoga in the Satyananda Tradition

Satyananda is a holistic style of yoga, developed  from ancient yogic wisdom and adapted to the needs of modern living by Swamis Satyananda and Niranjanananda. It draws together teachings and practices from hatha, raja, karma, bhakti and jnana yoga in a fashion that is broad and flexible enough to cater to individual needs and preferences.

A Satyananda Yoga class always aims to develop and deepen the student's awareness of their own experience. This is done by creating an accepting and non-competitive environment in which to explore the practices. Through the development of awareness the student gains insight not only into the nature of the practices but into his or her own personality as well and embarks on a journey of self-discovery and transformation.

When we speak of yoga, we do not just mean asanas and pranayama. Yoga is the complete science of man’s mental, physical and emotional personality.

- Swami Satyananda
