Mental Health and Wellbeing - Through a Yogic Lens

Mental Health and Wellbeing - Through a Yogic Lens

Date: 30-May-2021

A SYTA Online PD Event Via ZOOM
MAY 2, 16 and 30 (9am -11am AEST)
With Dr Swami Shankardev, Swami Atmamuktananda  and Swami Anandakumar

Contemplating the past months, it is clear that the world around us has been in a state of flux and change that was previously unimaginable. These changes have impacted the patterns, rhythms, activities and relationships of our daily life. Understandably, this degree of change and uncertainty can unsettle the mind and cause emotions such as anxiety, worry, insecurity and fear to arise more strongly.

Yoga offers tools to cultivate the opposite feelings of steadiness, stability, inner strength, security, confidence, and hope.

This online PD event explores concepts, theory and practices to better understand mental health and to assist you in establishing practices for self care so that you may improve your own mental wellbeing. This allows you to benefit those you serve, love and give to, more effectively.

There are three parts to this PD Event. Each session will be recorded and available at a later date if you are unable to attend on the day. It is recommended to view all three recorded presentations in sequence to gain the maximum benefit through this unfolding journey.

May 2nd, Dr Swami Shankardev’s presentation is an opportunity to:

  • Raise your awareness and understanding of mental health from the perspectives of functional medicine, western medicine and yoga
  • Understand cultural differences and influences on mental wellbeing
  • Distinguish clearly the roles of therapist and yoga teacher

May 16th, Swami Atmamuktananda’s presentation is an opportunity to:

  • Realise the importance of foundational yogic principles and practices
  • Learn how yogic principles help manage the mind and maintain mental wellbeing
  • Explore life balance and the importance of cultivating equanimity

May 30th, Swami Anandakumar’s presentation is an opportunity to:

  • Resolve to deepen your own personal sadhana
  • Recognise that the quality of the teaching depends on the understanding of the teacher
  • Understand how caring for yourself benefits your students
